From my Facebook feed. Disclaimer: this girl is super nice and deserves absolutely nothing bad said about her. She just happened to be in a sorority and have parents who got her a Lexus and posted about it on Facebook.

Would her parents hate it if she brought a Japanese boy home?

She gave her car a (not the most creative) name so she is OK in my books.

I think? I don't know their models too well and I've never actually seen this girl's car in person. Looks like according to the post she got the car when she was 16 and she's at least 21/22 now, so it can't be newer than an '09 or something. Her boyfriend drove a new Nissan Murano though, which is the worst bromobile of all time haha

A girl I know got herself an orange PT cruiser this past weekend
She said it was "its cute and runs well and it was the best thing in our price range"
I did the only reasonable thing and teased her relentlessly about it.

Seeing the picture, I'm not saying anything bad. Thinking bad things, yes, saying them, no. :)

Yeah I'd agree with that. Like I said, not posting this because this girl needs to be made fun of or anything. Just the pose and the hashtags and all that silliness made me laugh. From an Oppo's perspective, there's always something funny about people who love their cars and/or actually care about cars but don't really know a lot about them.

I've heard people talk about some ridiculous cars they want because they're "cute". Dodge Caliber anyone?

That's what I thought.

I think people who don't really care about cars like them because they can be optioned pretty nicely (sort of a budget Lexus RX), but to me it's just another crossover. For that reason I also know next to nothing about it.

If I were friends with a stereotypical bro on Facebook who did something like that, I would have absolutely no problems posting his picture on here for the express purpose of being made fun of.

I had a friend who's dad bought him just about whatever he wanted. (Dad was a Big time surgeon). He happened to be a car guy, so he asked for some cool cars. People would be weird and say some awful things. I just figured, Hey, if it was me, I would ask for all the cool cars too.

Like I said, I'm not trying to flame her because her parents got her the cheapest model of Lexus six years ago or whatever. I just found the post/photograph itself amusing.

totes retaking one in this style with the Camaro tomorrow, #tbt that time when I celebrated paying off my loans with much more fun debt
and also having a professional shoot because one of my sorority sisters did with her Mustang
...come to think of it, we had some decent cars in my house: Audis, BMWs, Mercedes, Lexus, Jeeps, my Ninja, etc.

Looks like an IS300 to me as well, actually it is a very reliable car, and fun to drive RWD = Fun. I wonder if her parents even knew the car is RWD, I wonder if she does?
I have a IS300 as well, I too named it "Lexy" or sometimes "Sexy Lexy" if I am feeling naughty. I am not near as cute as her, but my car isn't too bad looking.

Hahahaha yes please do! I should take one as well when I buy my bike this summer. A professional shoot would actually be pretty cool with such a special car.
The sororities/fraternities at my school have an interesting mix in their parking lots. It would seem that the girls with nicer cars (BMW, Merc, Lexus—they don't seem to like Audis in Oklahoma) are much more likely to put the letters in their car. A visual survey of the parking lots shows a much higher incidence of Camrys, Civics, and the like. I haven't noticed this effect among the frat bros though. Just as likely to find the letters on a $50k lifted bro truck as a used Xterra (cheap bro mobile of choice).
On top of that there's a much smaller number that clearly come from more serious money and not just a household of successful professionals. The guys/gals play around in six digit territory—G wagens, Maseratis, New Range Rovers, big Mercs. Often 1000x less obnoxious about it than the bro with the used 3 series haha

Yea, sounds like UofM greek life as well. Some in-state junkers, lots of in-state/out-of-state $40-100k cars, some (mostly) out-of-state in the $100k+ range. I am sofaking glad I didn't have something like this while I was tooling around Ann Arbor, though. I still had my pink car, but because of expectations regarding letters, I never put mine on that car. We were expected to look effing perfect in letters, (hair, makeup, nails, tan, happy, not eating alone, no sweatpants, etc) and there was no putting lipstick on that pig of a Mercury, so no letters.
But we're all obnoxious because Michigan ;)

They're really nice looking cars, to date they're the only kind of Lexus that I would actually buy.

Yikes, if I had to go through all that effort to have some freaking stickers on my window I would forgo it as well. Of course, I'll have to be prepared for the rigorous standards expected when displaying the Oppo logo when I return this summer.

Ha, one of my friends calls his IS "Sexy Lexi," too. It is a surprisingly fun car, even with a slushybox.

Yes, they are still fun with the slushbox, as old school automatics go it is not too bad, and manuals are rare and tend to have been driven by kids who like to do things like put aero kits and 9 inch wide tires on 12 inch wheels on their cars and things like that. I actually found one in my search and when I asked the guy about it, he quoted me back a price a couple grand higher than the add, I said maybe I didn't remember, but wasn't he asking less, he said he didn't know what the car was worth, and now he did. I said good look with the sale, goodbye.
